Maikido is a modern school of martial art formed in Malaysia in 1976. The current Chief Instructors have trained others in the art in the US since 1981. The curriculum is an amalgamation of distance, entering/grappling, and ground work. The form stresses a scientific approach to modern self defense. It is a perfect blend of traditional martial art with modern practicality. The form also espouses an emphasis on Christian principles and defense while minimizing injury. We practice a reverence for all life. In the training from beginner to blackbelt the student becomes a formidable human weapon, tempered with good judgment and compassion for all. Classes are available currently through Winona Community Education at a local elementary school. We train outdoors in the warmer months near the Rose Gardens at Lake Winona.
