Liu Seong Royal Kung Fu is a rational self-defense system that relies on speed and evasiveness to counter aggressive attacks. Relative to other martial arts, it has very complex forms and is defensive in approach. The guiding philosophy is combat against multiple armed opponents. Weapons use is limited to advanced training, but movements are made as if the opponent was wielding a knife, stick, or other weapons. The postures and footwork protect most major vital areas and this protection is maintained at all times.
Other Pentjak Silat systems greatly influence the Liu Seong System. In the works of one common expression: “Chinese hands and Indonesian feet”. This refers to the basic combination of Chinese-style biomechanics and Indonesian style footwork patterns. The China hands component teaches good body alignment for power. Indonesian feet teaches mobility and positioning through the use of footwork patterns.
Liu Seong is the Chinese name of Willem Reeders, who first taught this martial art in the United States. Mr. Frank learned from David Dolbear, who learned from Gary Galvin. Mr. Galvin learned directly from Master Reeders during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.
