Lau Kune Do:Temple of Martial Arts
The kung fu teaching philosophy is one of balancing the traditional kung fu with the modern. This approach allows kung fu students to gain the most out of learning the ancient and extremely effective art of Kung Fu while building within, the underlying spirit of the true kung fu martial artist. Learning self-defense, getting in shape, and gaining confidence are the most immediate and real benefits in studying kung fu. Learning to apply the kung fu spirit and philosophy in all aspects of life is the greatest benefit.
Lau Kune Do as a fighting system utilizes extremely light footwork coupled with compact centerline movements. Along with highly effective open hand combat techniques, Lau Kune Do also utilizes traditional Chinese Weapons training in Staff, Nunchucks, Willow leaf sword and Wing Chung butterfly swords. We currently offer classes in Kids Kung fu , Adult Kungfu and Tai Chi Chuan.

Programs & Class Schedule
Adult Kung Fu
Adult classes are for students age 13 and older with approval from the instructor. Sifu Josh’s classes are very dynamic with no two classes being exactly the same. Beginner students learn a wide range of topics including: basic drills, punching, kicking, footwork , Chi Sau Sticky hands trapping, attacker-defender drills, and real world simulations. Advanced students go on to learn more complicated and physically demanding drills, supervised light sparring as well as traditional chinese weapons.(i.e. nunchucks, staff, willow leaf sword and the Wing Chun butterfly swords)
Youth Kung Fu
The emphasis of the youth kungfu class is equal parts discipline, physical fitness and martial arts. Some of the things Sifu Josh emphasizes in the youth class are; proper punching/ kicking techniques, evasion, blocking, forms, stance training and various physical fitness drills. The last ten minutes of every class the kids get to participate in fun games that develop martial arts skills. Once a month our school will be hosting a “kung fu movie night” for the kids. We will show a PG rated kungfu movie on a large projector screen at the school and provide healthy snacks and drinks for the kids. Parents may drop off child or stay for the fun. Check our blog for upcoming “kung fu movie night” dates and times.
Tai Chi Classes
Sifu Josh will be teaching traditional Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan twice weekly. This class will include instruction on martial applications of tai chi.
Qigong is a health based system of stretching and moving meditation. Our school will be hosting a guest instructor in Qigong. More info will be posted soon…
Many of Sifu Josh’s students enjoy taking advantage of 1 on 1 private lessons. Sifu Josh makes appointments to meet students at the school for 1/2 hour or full hour private lessons to give advanced instruction on anything from the basics, to sparring techniques or learning advanced forms such as Hurricane hands and Centerline attack.
Open Temple hours
Open temple hours are made available 7 days a week for students to come train at their own pace outside of class. Come kick the heavy bags, condition your hands on the iron palm table or master your traping skills on the wooden dummy.
*Sparring is not allowed during open temple hours. Sparring will only be conducted under direct supervision of Sifu Josh Cuppett during scheduled class time. Anyone breaking this rule will be expelled from the Temple.
