Welcome to Harai Dojo !! We teach Kodokan Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu both for sport and as a way in Martial Arts. Judo is translated as the "Gentle Way", where as Jiu Jitsu is translated as the "Gentle Art". We are a MABJJ Professor Marcelo Alonso -Team Carlson Gracie affiliate. We have the luxury of having Professor Aaron Martin and Professor Joey Guel as our main BJJ Instructors.
Sensei Jim Harai Jr envisioned Harai Dojo almost 30 years ago but decided to table the idea since his father had his own Judo Dojo known by many in the local area as the Tacoma Judo Club. Sensei Jim named his Dojo after his father, a Judo 8th Degree Black Belt (Hachidan) had passed away.
Harai Dojo has created a unique approach to teaching and training their Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Students. They invite many local and not so local Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belts and Instructors to come teach classes to their students. Sensei Jim's vision is to expose his students to as many different styles and techniques unique to each Instructor.
Sensei Jim has spent 45+ years learning and teaching Judo. Sensei Jim is currently a Kodokan Godan -5th Degree Black Belt and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown Belt under Professor Marcelo Alonso - Team Carlson Gracie. Sensei Jim Harai Jr has spent the better part of the last 4 years working on his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu technique to help train his own students that take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at his Dojo. Sensei Jim has the help of Co-Owners and Judo & BJJ Coaches Chris Hastert and Michaelangelo Syyan.
