The Classical Yoga of India is a meditative system of relaxing, gentle, slow movements, and held postures. Flexibility and fitness are byproducts of these beautiful, graceful stretches, but not prerequisites. Results often include deep calmness, a focused mind, and increased range of motion and alignment. In traditional yoga, our focus is on tranquil contemplation and meditation, healing, and energy consciousness.
Botox/face lifts paralyze the face, so that they cannot make full facial expressions, so when they speak it is less obvious of what they are really trying to say. Likewise, our sadness (disappointment, grief, trauma, loneliness, etc.) paralyzes our bodies, restricting our complete expression of ourselves. Therefore, the necessity of Yoga is to coax our structure first into full range of motion and then into absolute, unified, manifestation of ourselves.
The responsibility of the yoga teacher is to be a good example of radiant health, compassion, and selfless interest in giving their knowledge to those who are ready and interested. We invite students into the glorious light of practice. Our job is to open the gates to the castle that is the postures, never using horses to drag them in.
Our goal is to be empowered to serve, love, give, purify, meditate and Self-realize.
