Darien Martial Arts Academy offers traditional Japanese karate classes for children ages 4 and up. Our students develop self-confidence, balance, concentration, flexibility, self-discipline, and strength. For advanced students we offer aikido and samurai class weapons training.
Sensei Andrew Scala trained in Japan for 8 years, earning 12 black belts in multiple styles including a 3rd dan in aikido, the highest rank ever awarded in his school in Japan. His teaching focuses not only on the physical aspects of the martial arts, but also in building self-confidence and decision-making skills in his students. Scala believes, "Children who grow up knowing the meaning of integrity, honor and respect for others become adults who lead."
