Byakkokan dojo has been open since 2005. We teach and promote Toyama Ryu Battodo. Toyama Ryu is the style that was used by the Japanese military during World War 2 and was put together by Japan's top swordsmen at the time.
At the dojo, we practice kata, tameshigiri (test cutting), and gekken (sparring). I believe this is the way to truly understand swordsmanship at it's fullest. We practice all three in a way where they supplement each other. You can get more information at http://newyorkbattodo.com/curriculum
I am one of the youngest teachers in Toyama Ryu currently and hold the rank of 5th Dan renshi. I have competed and won many times in Japan and the US and now just teach and judge at competitions. I do my best to create an atmosphere where it's not just about us, but we like to interact with other dojos as well since it's about growth as a group not just us. So feel free to come and watch or try a class.
