I have been to dozens of martial arts schools over the years, and had several instructors in my youth. None have compared to what Guro Nelson has accomplished with KSK Martial arts! Not only is the instruction top notch. ..you WILL learn to defend yourself! But the people and atmosphere are beyond what you would expect in a martial arts school!
This is no cookie cutter McDojo that just wants your money. This is a true family atmosphere in which all are welcome. From the moment I walked in the door just over 2 years ago I could see and feel the difference. A fat middle aged man, that I am. .. I was warmly welcomed, and never felt anything but positivity from the instructors and the students. Over these years I have seen all walks of life come in and all are treated the same way.
This is a place that leaves everything at the door. ..social class, race, religion, all of it. ..and makes you feel like you belong. There is not diversity at KSK. ..because everyone is treated the same. ..with respect and honor. The friendships I have built from this class will last a lifetime. ..
This really is a special place for the whole family. The kids classes are the best I have ever seen!! The adult material diverse enough for everyone's taste. ..weapons (Armas Kali) stand up (Kai Shin Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee;s art) ground work (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu)
You should come in and see what it is all about.

as the son of a gay man, and employed in the theatre industry, it is great to train at a place that is full of so many backgrounds, ethnicities, preferences, religions, etc., all working & laughing & learning together in such a productive manner. the kids & youth classes even more so. but its not just that. its also a place that teaches the kind of martial arts that is actually realistic, and prepares you for you will truly encounter in a real life situation. this translates perfectly to the children, who are taught how to deal with bullies in more than one way (i really, REALLY hate bullies). the fact that i've stayed there for 1 & a half decades should say enough. ..

Aside the amazing hand to hand combative skills, strategic thinking skills and a positive reinforced environment. I truly have found at KSK, people that genuinely care about you and also Believe in having an open heart-open minded way of developing your skills and introduce you to more of the "life style" part in martial arts. Guru Kent Nelson has seriously awakened a light in my life, through the company of martial arts. And also shares my interest in music. So, too me i didn't just find a family after walking in through these doors almost 2 years ago, i have found my tribe. But i encourage anyone interested in bettering their life, learning some great skills in self defense or are just looking for a fun work out in a friendly environment. Come and hang out with us! See you on the matts! :)

We were going there for three years and then my daughter came out of the closet. The owner operator started making fun of her in class. When I asked him to stop he refused because he had the right to say whatever he wanted. She came home crying from every class for months until finally our membership was terminated. Perhaps if you are a WASP this is a great place for you. Otherwise, beware! There is a reason that anybody from a minority doesn't last long there.

If you are looking for a great place with the awesome people and the best instruction in the Lansing area, then you have found your dojo.
KSK Martial Arts had everything I was looking for in a training location, no wonder I have been a consistent student for two years now. KSK is where you will get the most skill acquisition out of every dollar. Ill see you there!
My son has been a student here for several months and LOVES it. The staff is great, very friendly. Instructions during class is well structured and organized, as well as appropriate for youth learners. If you are looking for MMA, or exercise, discipline, respect, confidence for your child- this is the place.
