Central Illinois Wing Chun

Wing Chun is a concept based close range self-defense system that utilizes fists, palms, elbows, kicks, knees, and trapping to immobilize and defeat an opponent. Wing Chun can also be used as a path towards self-betterment, as you can apply all of the concepts from Wing Chun into our daily life.

CENTRAL ILLINOIS WING CHUN takes a traditional approach to teaching the foundations of the Wing Chun system and a realistic and practical approach on how to apply the techniques and concepts for this day and age. Having a strong foundation and knowing how to actually apply what you are learning realistically is critical for real self-defense.

CENTRAL ILLINOIS WING CHUN teaches Ip Man lineage Kung Fu.

Programs & Class Schedule

CENTRAL ILLINOIS WING CHUN is a private school. We are only accepting people who are serious, dedicated and compassionate about learning Wing Chun. Please do not inquire about membership if you do not have the time to come to class or will not work hard.
Everyone's life situation is different and sometimes life can get pretty busy which could limit ones class attendance. We will always take these situations into consideration when deciding to accept new members into the school.

An ideal student is one that is wanting to learn how to better themselves through training and the philosophy of Wing Chun. Determination, self discipline and the willingness to work hard are the only ways to excel in Wing Chun, and everything that means something in life.

We will not accept anyone that:

1. Is looking to "get a few techniques" to add to whatever style(s) they are doing.
You can incorporate Wing Chun into different martial arts for sure as it is a concept based system. However, to truly be effective with it takes many years of consistent training. This is not a system you can just pick from and expect it to work.

2. Just wants to learn how to fight.
Yes this is a martial art and yes we teach how to use Wing Chun for self defense. Wing Chun is not about violence or wanting to cause pain to others if we don't have to. Having the mindset of martial arts being just about fighting is a bad way to view it, and will cause nothing but harm to others and yourself.

3. Is unwilling to accept new ways of doing things / has a full cup
Too many times people have come to the school with the "idea" of wanting to learn Wing Chun. Some have taken other styles of martial arts or maybe even a different lineage of Wing Chun. Some have even tried to learn from YOUTUBE or by book. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Any knowledge is good Knowledge when it comes to self defense. However, when they come to the school to learn they either want to prove it all wrong, compare their other style's way of doing something and why it is better, or they already know it all. So why are you even here?

4. Has an ego.
One of the biggest mistakes in learning a martial art is having an ego. This is one of main obstacles in becoming effective in a Martial Art, and life as well. Not only will that person fail to see their shortcomings and weaknesses and not be able to learn from it, they will also see that no one will want to practice with them. These 2 factors alone would be a major obstacle for progression within any martial art school, and more importantly...life.

An interview and screening process is required before becoming a member of the school. This also includes a free class. This is to be sure that the teacher and student fit each other and also to observe the potential student's work ethic, to be sure he/she is of good and moral character, and see how he/she works with the other students. For the potential student this a great way to see the style, how the class operates, meet some of the students and ask questions.

Contact CENTRAL ILLINOIS WING CHUN for more info, or to set up an interview if interested in becoming a member.
