Aikido teaches a non-violent way of life. Anyone can train in Aikido regardless of age, sex, or physical conditioning. Aikido promotes an internal sense of well being and peace. It is ultimately a "way" to self-discovery and a tool to manage conflict in every day life. Aikido is not gender specific. Since Aikido is not dependent on strength or speed, everyone has equal potential. To the first time viewer Aikido can look like the thrower "nage" is winning over the "uke" the person being thrown or pinned. Very soon after a little practice it becomes apparent that both the nage and uke are winning. Both people get to practice their movement for their collective benefit and safety.
We also train in Iaido which is the art of drawing, cutting, clearing, and returning the katana (Japanese sword). Iaido promotes a sense of body movement and a feedback system of the individuals’ sense of mind, body, and spirit cohesion. After many years of study in Iaido, Nishio Sensei developed Iaido forms based on Aikido techniques. His system of forms is called Aiki Toho Iai.
Our Chief instructor is Trent Peacock Sensei, a 1st grade brown belt and authorized by the Yurusu Aikikai to
teach in the following arts: Aikikai Aikido, Yurusu Budo, and Aiki Toho Iaido. His additional experience includes three years of Greco-Roman Wrestling and two years of Army Combatives. Sensei Peacock joined Yurusu Aikikai after returning from overseas duty and continues his studies of Aikido and Iaido under the guidance of John Bollinger Sensei who is a direct student of Nishio Sensei.
