Programs & Class Schedule
Children’s Karate Program
It’s never too early…
Our children’s program is geared around the 3 F’s: Focus, Fitness, and Fun!
Our unique belt-earning strategy is grounded in a positive reinforcement system that allows each child to set and attain short, mid, and long term goals.
The goals that we set with each child are three fold:
1. Physical – Improvement in balance, strength and conditioning, and precision
2. Mental – Improvement in focus, creative thinking, and memory
3. Emotional – Improvement in discipline, confidence, determination, and respect
Progress through our belts is built on predetermined improvement in all of these areas. Goals are individually created for each child based upon his/her needs, and recommendations to test for the next rank are based upon these goals. The goals are not limited to martial arts, but also include respect, focus, and following directions outside of our studio.
Our experience has shown that children that have enrolled in our martial arts training program have seen an improvement in their other sports, their academics, and other activities, as well as reduced the likelihood of them being a target of bullying.
Teen Karate Program
Our Teenage Program focuses on the skills needed to best prepare and excel in their college experience. With the increasing number of college applications submitted each year, colleges are looking more to the extracurricular activities and achievements for basis of acceptance of academically similar applications. With a martial arts training program, students not only further develop the physical and mental skills useful in a college environment, but they also learn and develop one of the most effective self defense systems around today.
Achieving Black Belt, though still impressive to college application reviewers, unfortunately does not carry the same weight that it used to 10 years ago (mainly due to explosion of martial art studio growth and the resulting exponential growth of black belts). We, at USSD Irvine, have created the Service and Mentoring Program for teens that expands on the commendable achievement of earning a black belt.
The Service and Mentoring Program is for the teenage student to mentor students in the children’s class, and help develop the child to his or her full potential. This not only builds leadership and mentoring skills for the teenager, but also provides a unique opportunity to both describe the achievement of earning a black belt and the positive work done as a black belt.
Adult Karate Program
…and it’s never too late!
Our adult program focuses on the harmony of mind, body, and spirit…. Our goal is to help lose weight, improve cardio, increase flexibility and stamina, and strengthen focus. Our students tell us that their training is a welcome and much needed departure from the stresses of their daily lives.
Our adults sign up with us for a few different reasons:
Physical Fitness
Martial Arts is one of the few programs that provides “A Full Body Workout.” Many of our adults that are consistent with going to the gym still come to our group classes with “Optimistic Apprehension!” Our focus is on stretching, strengthening, and conditioning with additional attention on agility and coordination. With our personal training program, training intensity is tailored to each individual’s needs.
Mental Development
Success in the martial arts requires a high degree of mental acuity. With meditation training and the focus drills that we teach, adults have found improvement in ability to concentrate, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Our training program is designed to push each student past their self-imposed boundaries, and show him/her that anything is possible if you put your mind & heart into it.
Stress Relief
Daily life is getting more and more stressful for everyone nowadays. Whether it’s meeting ever-shortening deadlines, or managing your children’s academic/activity calendar, many times the day just takes the life out of each and every one of us. Many of our adults attend class just to “recharge.” Our training studio serves as a temporary “reprieve” from the trials & tribulations of every day life.
Self Defense
As our name indicates, we are focused on teaching the most complete & efficient self-defense system around. For the past 40 years, United Studios has adopted the self-defense techniques from many of the major fighting styles. We have combined all of the different combat principles to provide an all-encompassing self-defense system that teaches defense against empty handed attacks and grabs.
Family Bonding
Over 60% of our student body is made up of family members! We have father-daughter, mother-son, brother-sister, and every other combination! We have a saying, “The Family that Kicks Together, Sticks Together!” We have learned from our families that parents really enjoy doing the martial arts with their kids, because it is the one venue that allows the whole family to be on “equal ground.” The whole family gets to prepare for belt tests together as well as celebrate belt promotion together! It is a great thing to be a part of.
Achieve Black Belt
Many of our adults want a new challenge that’s different, yet universally recognized. Many of our adults excelled in their adolescent years in academics, athletics, music, and/or art. After starting a family, many of their personal accomplishments took a backseat to family responsibilities. The goal of earning a black belt is something that many of our adults enjoy going after.
The great thing about the martial arts is that all of these benefits are inherent to our training program. Because our training program is focused around private lessons, adults are able to personalize training to their own specific goals.
