UMAA is a martial arts school offering a variety of martial arts ranging from Muay thai and Kickboxing to JKD and Kali. It also holds several self defense and supplemental seminars throughout the year. Sifu Woods and Sihing John run a tight academy and the schedule works around yours.

However, the only let downs I found with the academy are the CONTRACT and PRICE TAG for these classes along with the restrictions of how many times you are suppose to attend classes. Which in turn cause you to feel like this is really only about your money while only receiving minimal training a couple of times a week.

You pay a hefty startup fee for equipment and their "Uniforms", it feels a bit much. When meeting with Sifu the first time to discuss coming into the academy, he will insist (demand) you take a private lesson ($30). thus the money hose begins to flow. Seminars, late fees, apparel, weapons, private lesson, and events, all begin to drain you of additional money monthly, and if you don't partake, you feel left out.

Aside from that. UMAA is a mixed bag...It is filled with good staff, friendly class mates and legit instruction. So if you have the money. I would say go for it. Just try to keep as much of it in your pocket, because martial arts is no longer a way of life...its a business..sadly.
