I tried a few Danzan ryu Jujitsu schools in the chicagoland area and they ALL put a bad taste in my mouth. I met the owner of this school and when he told me that he taught Danzan ryu and how he taught it, I decided to try it one last time. I wasn't disappointed! The techniques That I'd learned were a far cry from the other Danzan ryu schools that I'd went to in the midwest. The techniques actually worked when this instructor taught them! needless to say, years later, i am still his student. If you want to learn true Danzan Ryu Jujitsu, then this is the place to go. Trust me, you'll get bitten by the Jujitsu bug at the first class!!

Not really a school for those looking to fight (and that's not a bad thing here) the focus instead is on how to break someone down viciously. more self-defense oriented with a Combat sport flavor to me. Has all the same techniques, methods & training of MMA but the intent is different (This is just my opinion though)seems more like it should be used in the street as most of the stuff here (that i've saw at least)is illegal by MMA standards. More like old school carnival wrestling where people went home with torn off ears, dislocated hips and broken toes. Been training with the instructor for awhile (at several locations prior) and I'm very satisfied with what i'm learning.

A lot of very interesting techniqus were covered during my 1st week with the head coach like the toe hold roll, The Gotch Toe Hold (VERY PAINFUL), Toe Hold Hip Crank, Kneebar with toe hold, Rear Naked Choke into The Twister (ouch!) Cattle Catch Rollover(my neck still hurts from that one), Ankle Lace Kneebar, Liver Punch, Heart Punch, Superman Punch, Arm Triangle, Head & Arm Toss into Ameriacana W/Stocks to name a few. Complete techniques were taught in an applicable context instead of Katas and one steps like at most gyms. If you like to sweat, get twisted and learn a lot of cool self-defense then you'll like this place.

One thing for sure, you WILL work EVERY muscle in your body in this class! There is action from beginning to end. Respect is given to all styles of combat here and the instructor was very humble and sincere. That's what really hooked me..Besides getting cranked on with armlocks, kneebars, toeholds and neck cranks! Great class!!
Awesome Training
