UECHI-RYU OF LOS ANGELES (Training information)
CLASS STRUCTURE
The training sessions are semi-private with four to eight training partners per session. Each training partner receives a significant amount of personalized instruction to help improve their martial skills.
SPARRING:
We practice free sparring (jiyu kumite), at all levels. We want to be sure that jiyu kumite is conducted in a safe manner, therefore, we refrain from “full contact” sparring (i.e. no knockouts, blood or broken bones).
Safety is paramount and is maintained!!!!
IRON BODY CONDITIONING
Please note that we also engage in “iron body” conditioning as is typical for the vast majority of Uechi dojos.
BLACK BELT TESTING, TOURNAMENT AND REGIONAL WORKOUTS
Okikukai West (OKK-W) holds periodic regional workouts and dan testing within California, Dan tests are held in May and November of each year. Additionally, OKK-W holds its annual tournament every May in conjunction with the dan test. Candidates eligible for dan testing will be informed by their instructor. There are additional fees for dan candidates to cover the cost of the tests and certification.
