We enrolled our son after a great birthday party and love the program. The staff does a great job of making the kids feel great, have fun and learn karate. We refer our friends all of the time!

I ended up leaving in the middle of my trial class. The instructor was late getting to class, and had to leave early for an emergency at another job. I understand emergencies happen, but how to do you compensate for the students? ...oh wait, you don't.

Patty Haase claims to be a proven champion of martial arts. Champion, but no championships. Champion?

I would just like to warn any other parents who are sucked in by low price karate, that your children will look up to these "instructors". My son looked up to one particular, a red haired fellow who answered to the name John- John is an extremely sarcastic individual. I received a call from my son's teacher that every time a student would speak up in class he would say "duh" really loudly, and think that its funny to burp loudly... two characteristics that are extremely familiar with John, with which my 6 year old son said that he had learned that behavior from. I immediately pulled my son out of the school... even though I had to pay an early termination fee on my contract it was worth the less aggravation.

I took my son to class today, and since he was the only one to show up to class, Ms. Patty told us to come back Monday. What type of service is this? We will not be going back Monday, but will be waiting for my contract to end. Farewell, USA Karate Academy.

My family currently trains at USA Karate Academy, and we can't wait for our contract to be over!!! I've seen some other local schools forms and demo teams, and it is embarassing to be a part of this academy. They do get me to sweat, but who wouldn't from doing pushups and situps that I can do on my own time. I'm there to learn martial arts and sweat, not cardio; that's why I have a gym membership.

Nice looking school from the outside looking in.. unfortunately it has zero potential. Signed my son up for a summer program, he went two weeks and that was about as much as both of us could take. Took him to Ernie Temple's school of karate in september... we couldn't be happier. Definately shop around before choosing a school, both schools offered us a free trial so check it out for yourself!

The owner told me it doesn't matter who teaches my sons class, because I didn't enroll him for a specific instructor... then why didn't I just sign him up somewhere else if the instructor doesn't matter?

I enrolled my 7 year old daughter in classes in August of 2010. I was pressured into getting her sparing gear for Christmas by the owner and in January she got punched in the nose and broke her nose. The instructor sat her down saying "its fine" but maybe if he was paying attention instead of having 5 different "matches" going this could have been avoided. I pulled my daughter out immediately, go to a school that can give more one-on-one attention rather than mass chaos.

My daughter has thrived at USA Karate Academy due to the personalized attention of the staff, particularly the owner. Only positive things to say about every aspect of the program.
We have found in looking at schools that not every school is right for everyone but if you want your child to have some martial arts training, confidence and discipline this is the place. If you're looking for hard-core training for adults or MMA Fighting there are other schools out there for those purposes.

Trained at North Brunswick UTA for many years until I recieved my 1st Dan. Due to affordability, I was looking to continue my training at a less expensive school. I spoke with the owner Patti Haase, who gave me an amazing deal. I was extremely unhappy with the level of instruction, never once was Ms. Haase on the floor teaching but sitting in her office joking around. A month later, I was approached to Ms. Haase explaining to me that my rate is going up and I will be paying nearly twice as much as we had agreed upon. I told her that I was unable to afford this and I would have to discontinue my training. When I said this, Ms. Haase pulled out a 12 month contract she made me sign and took me to court. If you are looking for an expensive day care, or to be jerked around by an unqualified martial arts "instructor", by all means sign up for this "dojo".
USA Karate Academy is primariy a martial arts school for children ages 3 & Up. There is a predefined system of advancement based on widely accepted karate/tkd belt requirements through many professional organizations. The staff is compiled of all Black Belt Instructors of varying degrees with their own specialties.
I happen to know that at least 4 of the negative reviews posted are from the same person using ficticious names; funnily enough he actually told me that he uses one of the names regularly in a variety of settings to disguise his identity. I just happened to be on this site & recognized his "alias". Total loser so don't pay any attention to the comments.
Looking at reviews for products to buy is one thing; if you're looking for martial arts for your child, visit this school & you will see for yourself that 300 students' & their parents wouldn't have an average enrollment spanning 4-6 years. I did so, and I told the owner after my daughter's trial class that the parents in the lobby wouldn't stop talking about how great she is and how happy & loyal they are to the school. I enrolled my daughter immediately & she loves going every day.
Ms. Patty has a leadership program for the students who are teenagers & brown belt or higher, along with a Trainee Instructor program; 4 of the Assistant Instructors came up through the ranks & have been at the school for over 8 years! This is great to see & I hope one day my children work here too.
If you want MMA style fighting or a serious, rigid, old-school atmosphere go somewhere else. The majority of the population of parents looking for martial arts for their children are looking for a low-key, confidence building program which incorporates values & life skills as well as technique.
