Absolutely recommend Tri City Karate!

First of I want to say that since day one we have felt at home with this studio! And have for the past 3 years!

I read through the past reviews and noticed the latest one by shanrahan. I just want to say, never once have we've experience a lack of respect from Ms Tory. And perhaps this was not the right for your "active" child but it seems you only wrote a bad review because she didn't respond to your email. And that seems totally unfair. Perhaps a respectful call to her as a follow up to your email could have been done as we all know emails, text can be missed and as busy as Ms Tory is that very well could have been the issue. And as for not being able to handle your active child, I watched the one handle 20 active pre-schoolers at once and never seen an issue with th any shapes, sizes and attitudes of 20 two-five year old kids! Check your own parenting before you accuse. Professional of not being able to hand your "active" child or your less than adult way of handle a missed email. I take this personally because I have become a good friend of Ms Tory, made many wonderful friends at Tri City and I can't stand when people bad talk others online for such trivial reasons as a missed email? Seriously grow up and apologize.

This studio was not for my active child

After contacting the owner via email and letting her know my child would not be returning I never heard from her again. A little respect would have been nice and may be I would in turn have respect for the studio. Children come in all sizes and attitudes so if you are not open to that please do not teach children.

The atmosphere here is great! It's by far the cleanliest we've seen in our hunt for a karate school! We get a ton of personal attention and the instructors are very genuine and caring! The cost of tuition is by far the best as well. We looked at the others in the Endicott area and found that this one really exceeded expectation. Some of the others made us feel pressured to sign a long term contract with a big down payment, some don't acknowledge a tier system of how much you pay for how many classes you attend. Which was difficult to swallow paying for a family of 3, to only be able to attend 1 night a week, yet pay well over $150.00 a month was just insane!

We really don't have any cons about Tri City, all pros! Keep up the good work!

We just love Miss Tory and how well she interacts with all age students! What I like too is how offerable the rates are and that they also offer a variety of classes for adults! Like the cardio kick box class, and my fav butts and gutts class as well as tang soo do!

Great Atmosphere and Karate Spirit for All Ages.

As a parent, I was thrilled to hear of a class for the little ones. My daughter loves Karate and it has helped her so much with listening skills and self confidence. The instructor makes classes light-hearted and fun, while keeping discipline and firm order. And in a class of 3-5 year olds, those traits are all equally important.

As a student of Karate myself, of many years, the opportunity to join a dojo that is unpretentious, warm, and close-knit meant a lot to me. Simply being able to work on my own levels in Martial Arts for simply the joy has meant so much to me. Karate Family draws support from within itself, and I would recommend any age student to come join us. I find myself smiling more in the class than I have in a long time. This dojo is exactly what I needed.

We love coming here. This is the first sport that our son has actually followed through with and participates in. He looks forward to going to classes and he enjoys showing off what he has learned.

I love the instructor! She has such an awesome way with the little ones. Very professional and instructor is always happy! You can tell she loves this job. We are excited to be a part of this karate family. If I had more free time I would take advantage of all the other stuff the studio provides from personal training sessions to cardio kick boxing and much much more. They also have family picnics and holiday parties. I am happy we chose this academy for our family.

My son has been a student here for almost 3 years. He and I both love the instructor. She has a way of teaching discipline without intimidating the kids. They all seem to love and respect her. She is wonderful, innovative, and makes class exciting and interesting by always switching things up and keeping the kids engaged. Keep up the good work!

In reading the the lengthy review by the parent who gave this school a poor

Rating, and as a parent in the 3 to 5 program, the child of that parent,

Class after class was out of control, disruptive and spit another childs face!

The parent sat by and watched, and gave no mind to her childs inappropriate

Behavior. All the other 3 year olds didn't seem to have impulse control issues

And quite frankly listen to instruction very well, but this child just class after class

Caused quite a disruption. Perhaps if the mother wasn't busy playing on her

Phone, and gave more attention to what was going on, she would have seen this.

And further more, insulting and degrading an instructors form of discipline by making the child sit out? is in itself Shameful. Maybe if more control at home was exhibited as well as self control By the childs mother, the child would be have at a more appropriate 3 year old

Level.

And class was much more pleasant without the diruptive little girl and her

Obviously unstable mother. Just saying.

Not recommended for the 2.5 to 3 year olds

Oct 21 2013 by Displeased (Parent of a Student with 3 - 6 Months Experience at this school)

Instructor expects too much from children that are only 2.5 to 3. Also does not have enough help. Inappropriate punishment. Uses public shaming.

Children are pulled by their uniforms (not gently), made to sit and not participate for not listening (inappropriate expectations of a 3 year old). There was also a scenario where the instructor made a pile of mats and said if anyone touched them, no one would get lollipops. So of course, a student touched them. The instructor then told the class that because a student touched the mats that no one would get lollipops. Cue the class getting upset at the student. Instructor has also made toddlers sit facing the wall or be the "dead cow in the corner".

A three year old does not have the capacity to quietly sit and listen. It isn't something wrong with a child, their brains simply have not developed to that point yet. And punishing the class for her touching something is awful. Impulse control is one of the last things to fully develop in a human brain. A child of three isn't capable of thinking through something before acting. The instructor really needs some serious educating in early childhood development.
