Classic Japanese sword school teaching samurai-style sword fighting.
Toyama Ryu is and Iaido school, which means that it specializes in the glass smooth draw-and-cut. We strive to make each cut perfect to maximize the power and precision of the attack.
Toyama Ryu is also a batto-jutsu school, which means that we also teach actual swordfighting: partner practice, sparring, etc.
The sensei, Jake Sorenson, was trained in Japan and is one of only two instructors in the US who are qualified to teach this sword style.
The essence of Japanese swordsmanship lies in its perfection. Learning the art of Japanese swordsmanship requires a training which permeates the entire life outside the dojo, building compassion and self-discipline.
