Tonbo Dojo has classes in Iaido (Drawing, cutting and re-sheathing the Japanese sword) and Jodo (Short staff vs. Japanese sword). Olson Sensei has been studying for over 25 years and teaching since 2011.
The following Martial Arts Styles are offered at Tonbo Dojo:
Iaido is the art of drawing and cutting with the Japanese sword. Students are taught kata (techniques) that use the sword in various self-defense applications. Through repetition of the kata, students improve core strength, balance and concentration. Iaido is a non-contact martial art that is considered one of the oldest of the Japanese Budo.
Jodo teaches students the art of the Japanese short staff. The student is taught the art of self defense against a sword using a short staff by use of kata. The physical benefits of Iaido and Jodo are very similar, but Jodo does involve some contact through highly orchestrated techniques, not sparring. Jodo is also considered one of the oldest of the Japanese Budo.
