The club has a tradition and while playing with the club some years ago I felt it was great. Actually, from the time I was there, for me it was the best place for martial arts ever and no other club could be as could as the Tomodachi Judo club.
Also the price is very reasonable and I had never seen so many black belts teaching at the same time.
From the reviews I saw here, it sounds that some people were not very satisfied with the club. That is what motivates me to write this review. No matter what have happened, from the mindset and discipline and good will of the founders of the Tomodachi Judo Club I can definitively recommend the club and invite judo lovers to check it out.
Unfortunately, being from Brazil, my kids are crazy for soccer and they have opted for soccer. Otherwise, we would still be there.

It is interesting that Tomodachi judo club is filed under Delray Beach, when its two sites are in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach.
Also interesting is that the twelve reviews came in short period of time, and that was a time when there was a fracture in the club, with several black belts and brown belts splitting off to go to another club.
Now, some of their comments are true - a little bit of truth can certainly be used effectively to paint a bad picture, and if the reader agrees to that little bit of truth, then the reader might swallow the other statements whole.
Tomodachi is a more family-oriented club and many of its students and their parents are happy with the well-rounded training received. Some Tomodachi students do train for tournaments. However, if a student wants eight hours a week of intensive, high-energy, tournament-focused judo, perhaps another club is a better choice.
Tomodachi students who do well at tournaments tend to get promoted faster than other students, but students aren't promoted until they can effectively demonstrate the techniques appropriate for their new level.
Tomodachi instructors have ranks that are registered with at least one of the national judo organizations and instructors have to meet those organizations' requirements for promotion. Several Tomodachi instructors also have coaching certifications and referee certifications. When selecting a new club, don't be afraid to ask to see the senior instructors' credentials.
About 30 Tomodachi members attend a multi-day camp in North Carolina each summer, and students can opt to be tested for rank by the Master Examiners at camp.
Tomodachi hosts well-attended tournaments, and conducts kata certification clinics.
So, do what the reviewers say: visit several classes of each club and decide which club suits you best.
(As club founder, I am obviously biased, but this machine forces me to choose rating, etc.)

A few weeks ago a good friend of mine started taking Judo at a local club in Chicago. He called me and told me how wonderful Judo is and the what a great work out it has been. He went on explaining what he was learning and thought that this is something I should look into.
last week I discovered there was a Judo club in my area and went to see what it was all about.
This Judo club was far from what my friend had explained to meand several times I asked a parent on the side if this was actually a Judo class. they explained to me that it was but it is not geared towards a real work out and its not a serious class.I was very disappointed since I was looking foward to the kind of work out that my friend had braged about.
After more research I finally found a club that resembled what my friend was talking about and have to say WOW it is amazing!!!
I definetly recommend Judo but not this club.

My son and daughter were both registered with thgis club for 2 years. I sat on the side and watched my children be ignored and barely taught. The father and daughter who taught judo should take lessons on how to teach. They talk down tro the students and only work with there favorites. The father is only concerened with trying to get donations for the club and shows his support to only those he deems "supporters" even though everyone pays a monthly fee. As a divorced father of 2 and tight economic times, its hard enough to pay for extras not to mention the constant demand for contributions for "his " causes.
After 2 years i had seen many students get promoted and moved up the system, I asked about my children and was laughed at. I spoke to his daughter who told me it was dads decision and obviously "your children" arent ready. Well, after 2 years whose fault do you think THAT is ?
Are the instructors there to teach Judo and work with the students or are they there solely to raise money? one must wonder what ther objectives are???
After seeing the new round of promotions, I decided that it was time to leave and find a real Judo school and an instructor who is truly qualified to teach not like the "clowns" at this school
Its a shame because my two children rea;;y seemed to enjoy Judo.

I have studied Jujitsu and have been a wrestler for many, many years. I decided Judo would be fun and add to my take down abilities. I entered the school spoke to the sensei and immediately was told that I have to start all over and learn the basics. I was ok with that, and was eager to learn.
After spending weeks in a corner learning how to slap the mat and treated like I was a 10 year old boy, my fondness to learn this sport was fading.I decided to stick it out, thinking that this was the "right of passage"
after another two weeks being confined to a corner, I kept the faith that I will soon be released. I watched the class practice very basic techniques which they never seemed to move foward from.
I noticed that the black belt instructors were not much better then the students in demonstrating the techniques and some walked around like they invented Judo. One in particular, randy who thought he was a Jujitsu expert walked around arms folded and did nothing but critique others. When I finally got to see him throw a student who was maybe 60lbs, Randys technique was awfull. The head sensei talked to his students like it was Sesame Street, using cartoon voices and old jokes that even the youngest did not appreciate.
After too many months of not learning anything, and wasting money, I left. I was still eager to learn Judo and moved on to another club.
In half the time, I already learned so much Judo, competed in tournaments and have fallen in love with the sport.
my regret is that i didnt do my research prior to joining the the original club so this is why I am sending this in, so others dont waste there time and money. After joining this new club and meeting some great people they told me about Tomodachi and how bad there reputation is.
So my advice is to do your research, watch a class or 2 then decide which club is good for you.

If you want to learn Judo, I highly suggest you find a club that actually teaches Judo. Stay away form this club unless you just want to stand around and do nothing. The sensei's speak as if they are true Judo "masters", .. all talk no action.

I enetered tomodachi as an experienced judo player. The instructors walked around with high ranks and could not teach. They are cocky and ill mannored. I was so taken back by there approach to a sport that Ive loved and worked hard to achieve my rank.
They have no idea how to train hard and work on technique that could be used effectively. Its no wonder that they are all out of shape. One thinks he is jujitsu expert and from waht i witnessed, cannot even perform a basic Judo technique.
After a few weeks I left to another club where they take Judo seriously and train hard.
I would advise anyone from a beginner to advance to loof elsewhere.

i spent 4 months with this club, never missed practice and never learned any true judo. I didnt realize thsi until i stumbled apon a school in ft lauderdale. I couldnt believe what I saw, actual Judo, taught by instructors that knew Judo. I learned more in 2 weeks then I did in 4 months at this place, what a waste of time. The instructors, Mindy, Mike, Randy spent most of the time standing around and not showing any intrest in the students.
The attitude was poor
The quality of Judo was extremely poor
The overall experience was "horrific"
I am so glad i found a TRUE JUDO school because I am loving it

I recently came from college on break and decided to find a local Judo club. I stopped in on a wednesday night and watch the class for about 45 mins. I have studied Judo for 5 years and competed in many tournaments,I couldnt believe what I saw. It was a poor excuse for Judo, the workout was as lame as could be. The head Sensei, wearing a red and white belt, was showing a throw that was no where near what it should be and his version would never work. The students looked as lost as could be.
After watching this "circus" of a class, the next day i went back to searching and found a great Judo club. What amaized me is that they spent more time talking then practicing Judo, my Sensei from college would call them wanabees and with very little true Judo experience.
The only reasson why I am doing this, is that I do not want anyone looking to start Judo to think this is how all Judo clubs are. believe me, there are alot better out there, just spend time looking .

I enrolled my son and daughter, both elementary school age. They both started Judo classes at another school in another State. When we settled in after the move, I enrolled them at Tomodachi Judo school. After one class, they both refused to go back. I was actually appalled at how bad the head instructor was and his horrible attitude towards his young students. He talked in cartoon voices, which he thought was funny and then went on and taught waht he called Judo. It was the most horrific class I have ever seen, the quality of Judo was by far the worse I have ever wittnessed. My father was involved in Judo for over 50 years and I have been to classes all over the country and have never wittnessed what I have seen at this so called Judo club. I would never recommend this place to anyone,

I sent my son once, I thought Judo would be a fun activity. The head teacher was obnoxious and from what I could tell did not know much about Judo.
check them out If you want to learn what Judo is all about in philosophy and fundamentals. If your an experienced Judoka, come and share. If you want to have a killer workout and throw people around for fun, you might want to look elsewhere. This is non-profit, family run club, in the "Way" of Judo. The Instructors are dedicated to the sport and the students.
