Sensei Mark has been around the martial arts world a very long time. His skills are excellent but yet he doesnt come off as cocky or arrogant. If anyone can be believe me it could be him. I've been on the receiving end of his hands and feet. He is one of Shihan Kashimotos most senior students and by far his best i think. I always thought i was good until i had the opportunity to take his class and try to hit him while we sparred. And yes unlike most teachers he will mix it up a bit with his students. But it usually is not much of a match. Its trying to hit him and him getting out of the way and countering. I've said enough, just go there and see for yourself.
great training

I trained at the tokyo karate in staten island in the late eighties and early nineties along with Sensei Mark. He was very advanced compared to me and I loved when he would teach class. He was by far one of the best students and teachers of Shihan Kashimoto, who is like a karate God since the 60'S. One of, if not the first Japanese masters to teach in nyc back in 1960 something. You should definitely train here if you are within 45 drive. It is the real deal with no commercial gimmicks. Shihan Kashimoto rejected and threw out more students than he accepted. I heard Sensei Mark is doing thre same thing to avoid the wrong element from coming in. Oh yeah btw he was also a Nyc detective for 20years. Hard core.
It is true Martial arts. You get a feel that you are training in Japan the way they did a long time ago.

The instructor is one of the best to come out of Shihan Kashimotos stable. He is also a cop from what I remember in a real dangerous and hands on unit, so there is a wealth of street knowledge and trust in him. I also remember him studying at the original Tokyo Karate in Staten Island since he was a kid. The training is tough but so rewarding. It can really boost your confidence and self-esteem. If you can do this you feel you've really accomplished something. Hope this helps.
this guy is a pervert. pay attention to him before you take classes, he's fresh with his students. it's disgusting
