Great Instruction, Great People

I and my three children (ages 6, 9 and 12 now) joined the club three years ago. Initially, I was worried about working out with my children. But I quickly realized that the classes work well for all ages. The adults get a great workout and receive excellent instruction and the children are held to a high standard. I am not responsible for my child in class, in fact, I am not supposed to correct them at all. The masters do that. And that leaves me to focus on my own skill and work out. It makes for one happy mama at the end of each class!

I could say a lot about this club, but I'll sum it up by saying that this club is special in that it is not profit driven. It is driven by a dedication to the art and to equipping people with the ability to defend themselves. The classes have a great positive vibe. There is a lot of one-on-one instruction with black belts. All the upper ranks are extremely helpful and approachable. And lastly, for the same monthly fee you can take as many weekly classes as you wish.

I was looking for a authentic martial arts class near me. Then one day I received a flier with the clubs advertisement. I decided to give it a try. And I am glad I did.

The style is very authentic and taught the right way. No gimmicks like the other self defense classes. I am enjoying every bit of it. I recommend everyone to try it out.

Great Tae Kwon Do Karate Club

I send my son to this class as he has expressed interest of learning martial arts. This is a really great club for a beginner as the fees are very reasonable, especially for a parent who is not sure if this is just a kid's passing interest, but also a great club to join if he is to pursue his interest fully into martial arts. The best part of this club is that it is not the typical commercialized martial arts schools. The instructors work hard in trying to get their students to improve in their martial art skills and encourage parent and child to learn together. Also with the standard monthly fee, you can join any of this club's classes throughout the week with no extra charges. This is a great place for a kid to learn martial arts, discipline, stay focus and also exercise!

Great place to learn Martial Arts

My daughter and I are both students, and I can't say enough. We have seen big changes in our 7 years old - she goes to the dojo and works her little heart out, and then takes that same focus and drive and applies it to her responsibilities at school and at home. Master Rota and all black belt instructors are incredibly enthusiastic and friendly. I am especially impressed to watch Master Rota get to know each student individually and then help each student through whatever difficulties they might have. As an adult student I began my study with goals of fitness and self-defense in mind. We are thrilled to be part of the family!

A great place for our girls! For everyone!

As a member of the Groton Tae Kwon Do Karate Club now for 10 years, I feel confident saying it is a great place to learn not only Tae Kwon Do, but to gain self confidence and be part of a larger "family" of individuals with character. I wish every young girl (and boy!) could make the time to put a few years into Master Rota and Master Girouard's classes -- the newspaper headlines would change. The first step in self defense is in making good choices before encountering a risky situation!

This club also provides, by far, not only superior martial arts education but also superior value in an industry where families can lose college savings into classes for their kids. Here, parents often join themselves after watching their kids for a few weeks! It's the most reasonably (actually INexpensively!) priced fitness and vital life skills (character-building and self defense) class you will ever find. It's serious but fun, family oriented and individually challenging.

I now join the ranks of the other female black belts in our club after working hard over the years. There are so many years of experience in this club --- that should speak for itself as a definition of value. The tenure of our students who have pursued the hard and rewarding work to get to black belt did it through the training, respect and tradition of "giving back" from the masters and black belts throughout the club.

This is not an "after school" drop off program. It's a place that can shape how you see the world and yourself in it.

This class was recommended to us by friends. We have no previouse experience with Martial Arts. But we fell in love with this class at the first day. Master Rota and Master Girouard are not only very insightfull and passionate about the sport, but also very patient and encouraging to students. It is a great place for kids as well as families to learn Martial Arts. We learn new skills in every lesson. We also learn how to apply the skills in real life situations. Students may go to different locations to have lessons six days a week with a flat monthly fee, no extra charges.

Sparring practice is non-contact to develop control, power and focus without injury. Students in the class range from 7 to over 70 years old. Real, Effective Martial Arts in a Safe, Family Friendly Setting

This class offers the opportunity to access world-class training, without a long term contract. All students, even black belts, like myself, pay monthly dues only. The new or prospective student can choose to stay or leave, at any time.

Our two instructors teach under the auspices and guidance of Regent Grand Master Ron Bastien, who is internationally known and recognized for his skill and strict adherence to the tenets of martial arts. Groton instructors, Master Rota and Master Girouard, are selfless individuals, who epitomize those very same tenets.

Lesson plans are geared to give something to each level of student. The instructors are attentive, courteous, helpful, and insightful. Nobody escapes their attention. All are treated equally, regardless of skill or age. They are always ready to answer a question and, most importantly, see the things that others do not, so that each student can move on to the next rank.

Families are not only welcome, but are eligible for discounts on dues and other optional courses and events. It is a unique chance for family members to share the experience of working towards the same goal, to help, counsel, and care for each other.

A beginner can come and expect to get one on one training, with a black belt, for the first six weeks or so. The black belts donate their time, out of respect and gratitude for all we have been given. Similar help may be requested at any time during the student's progress through the ranks. New students will be taught basic stances, defensive and offensive measures. and the first Kata, or form.

Advanced students are given a level of training that is simply not available elsewhere. After 20 years, I am learning new things and refinements to techniques I am familiar with.

In summary, this class has something for everyone. I highly recommend you give it a try.

This class was rightfully chosen as the Premier "Best of Groton" award for best martial arts school in the area for 2014. Instructed by Masters Don Rota and Carl Girouard, I have attended this class and this is a well organized class with high level instruction, but also an extremely encouraging atmosphere for people of all ages, and all walks of life. I appreciate that students move forward and are promoted on an individual level and are proud to have earned their rank. It's not only unnecessary to sign a contract, but dues are paid monthly, and students may attend all other Club locations at no additional cost. This is a long standing traditional martial arts club, for more than 35 years, where all benefit from learning the physical discipline as well as the spirit of the martial arts, i. e. courtesy, integrity, self control, perseverance and indomitable spirit. This class is your choice if you seek a martial arts environment to build strength of mind and body for yourself and your family at an incredible value.
