A former champion in fighting (Sanshou and Shuia Chiao) & forms, Carlos M. Suarez has been involved in the study and practice of the martial arts for over twenty years. Carlos began his training at the age of 14, in his hometown of Bogotá, Colombia, where he was instructed by Master Alfonso Rodriguez Diaz in the discipline of Hap-Ki-do.
In 1989, Carlos moved to the United States, where he found he had an opportunity to learn and explore many other styles in the martial arts. After searching for some time for a style that contained the elements of self-defense, but also was beneficial for mind and spirit, Carlos began his training in Chinese martial arts. In 1994 he began studying Shuai Chiao (Chinese wrestling), Chang Style Tai Chi, Shaolin Kung Fu and Sanshou (Chinese full contact) under Sifu Alexander Knight. Five years later, he sought instruction from Sensei Stephanie Yap, in the Japanese art of Aikido. In 2001 Carlos began training in the art of Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu, with Sifu Liu Siu Hung.
In 2006 Carlos began studying under Sifu Andrew Chung in the Internal Arts of Tai Chi Chuan, Bagua, Hsing-I, as well as Dragon Style (Lung Ying), Bak Mei and Wing Chun Kung Fu.
Carlos currently runs his own studio in East Boca Raton and continues his studies of the martial arts (Shuai Chiao and Chang style Tai Chi under Master Chi-Hsiu D. Weng, martial blade craft under Master Shuki Drai and Yang Style Tai Chi and Qi Gong under Master Wei Lun Hung.
