Use your own risk and seek else where

This instructor employs an outdated approach and exhibits significant biases. After attending for three years, I have reached my limit. The instructor appears to have an issue with me due to my deafness, as I rely on lip-reading for communication, which he disapproves of. He claims that parents have complained, yet none have approached me directly. His teaching style prioritizes attendance over technique and stance improvement. Students are promoted regardless of their skill level, and he provides excessive guidance, eliminating the need for students to memorize their training forms. During rank evaluations, Black belts judging students which met with disappointment. They are complaining about the students do not know their technique, lack of stances, lack of power and fail to perform their training form. They also stated that Mr. Spivey promotes those students regardless. Furthermore, there is a notable presence of parental drama, including gossip and misinformation dissemination among parents, reminiscent of high school dynamics. Parents do not supervise their children and allow them to make a lot of noise and run around while class is in session. Over the course of three years, more than 37 students have dropped out due to dissatisfaction with his teaching methods. Openly expressing concerns or opinions often results in expulsion.

Mr. Spivey the instructor at Spivey Karate is a 10th degree black belt (the highest you can be promoted in the martial arts community. ) It is very rare to find an instructor with the highest accomplishment in Martial Arts like Mr. Spivey has. Mr. Spivey has been providing excellent martial arts instruction for students for over 50 years! With this experience you can trust that the system in place is well thought out, proven to work, and A great opportunity for students wanting to learn. Mr. Spivey is the most selfless martial arts instructor I've ever met, which is why I chose to train with him. He Cares for the students like they're family! I feel very safe, and comfortable training here. Mr. Spivey encourages students to be their best and reach full potential. At this karate school safety is a priority, and you can feel confident that Mr. Spivey will never put a student at risk of injury or rough tournaments. It is an honor to train with someone this knowledgeable in martial arts. If you want to gain confidence, strength, physical fitness, flexibility, integrity, respect, friendship, responsibility, accountability, relaxation, self defense skills, and become a martial artist, train here.

My children and I love Spivey Karate

My children and I all take karate with Mr. Spivey and Tai Chi with Ms. Linda. My review is both as an adult student and as a mother. I have taken martial arts classes from a Filipino mixed martial art instructor from his basement of his house, and many of his students were NY City guardian angels. So I know about tough. Mr. Spivey's style reminds me of my previous instructor, except I am learning more with Mr. Spivey. He challenges you to always be your best and do your best. He fosters respect for your country and respect for your fellow mankind. He teaches both martials arts and the martial art way (proper attitude). As an adult, I am learning through repetition and muscle memory; naturally the kids are like sponges. Kids learn so fast!

Mr. Spivey and his wife, Ms. Linda are outstanding people. I honestly have to say that my respect for both of them is immense. They are the best people I have ever met. My children are learning how to handle life situations (such as disappointments, defeat, wins, struggles, self -respect, common courtesy, responsibility, good will, safety and many other wonderful character traits) on top of learning karate / self defense. Children are encouraged to keep going (work through) the small injuries like abrasions and not to fall apart the moment that life does not go their way. Sure they are taught these great character traits at home, but Mr. Spivey and Ms. Linda also reinforce those so important character traits. Thank You Mr. Spivey and Ms. Linda.

THE BEST place for karate

My name is Bill Spivey. I am the instructor at Spivey Karate. And, I am responding to the previous review. The aggressive manner with the words sound like a man. He also seems to have an opinion on testing which suggest that he has a very small amount of knowledge about karate testing. Very little. He certainly has an opinion about what should be taught in a karate school. The little bit of knowledge that he has obviously based his opinions on is obvious. My opinions, on testing, tournaments, and how a karate school should be, are based on almost 50 years of experience. If I am such a terrible instructor, why have I been in business, around this area, since 1978? Why was I able to train 11 state champions? How have I been able to promote 170 Black Belts? Why do 2nd Degree Black Belts travel from Oldsmar and Port Richie to train with me? It is not unusual for me to have problems with parents, who "know a little bit about karate. " It is also not uncommon to have problems with parents who don't like to have their kids, or themselves, have to meet standards & expectations and follow rules. All of my approximately 100 students currently enrolled "Get It. " Feel free to come in and talk to the parents and myself any time we are open.
