Founded in January 2026, our Aikido school (www.shreveportaikido.com) was created to offer a welcoming, adult-focused environment for learning traditional Japanese Aikido in Shreveport. The dojo emphasizes safe, structured training, mutual respect, and personal development, making it accessible to beginners while remaining meaningful for long-term practitioners.
The school is led by Todd Sensei, who brings over 25 years of martial arts training and teaching experience. He holds a 2nd-degree black belt in Aikido from Aikikai, earned under Scott Sobel in Baltimore, Maryland, and started his training at 12 in Shorin-Ryu Karate. His instruction is grounded in both technical precision and practical understanding of how adults learn and progress.
In addition to Aikido and Karate, Todd Sensei has trained in Pentjak Silat, Escrima, Iaido, and Tai Chi, giving him a broad perspective on movement, balance, and body mechanics. This diverse background informs a thoughtful, adaptable teaching style focused on longevity, awareness, and continuous improvement on and off the mat.
