Shoshone Sage Aikido is the hombu Dojo of the O’Domhnaill Ryu style of Aikido, and the headquarters of the O’Domhnaill Ryu Aikido Association.
Shoshone Sage Aikido is a center for higher learning, offering students instruction in ancient methods of mental strength development, conflict resolution, and relaxation.
The O’Domhnaill Ryu name was first used in 2006, to distinguish the unique style of Aikido being taught by Master Stephen P. O’Donnell Sr., from other styles of Aikido. The O’Domhaill Ryu style is influenced by Master O’Donnell’s extensive experience in training law enforcement personnel throughout the country. It is also heavily influenced by Master O’Donnell’s diverse life experience, education, personal philosophy and spiritual beliefs.
In teaching thousands of students throughout the United States over the years, Master O’Donnell's passion has always been, and continues to be; empowering people to make positive changes in their lives and to achieve their goals and dreams. During the 1990’s, Master O’Donnell was a top Udansha and personal friend of Master Baldemar Sosa, founder and chief instructor of the International Aikido Association. In 1996, Master O’Donnell developed a revolutionary system of defense and control for law enforcement, known as the O’Donnell Continuous Control System, (OCCS). The system quickly became standard recruit training in police academies.
Ten years later, in 2006, he began teaching his own style of Aikido under the name of O’Domhnaill Ryu Aiki Bujutsu; a synthesis of his training in, and study of, numerous disciplines and philosophies. Master O’Donnell has earned a reputation, in the martial arts community, for his strict adherence to traditional customs and etiquette. While living in Japan, he developed a deep respect, and great admiration, for Japanese culture and philosophy.
