The classes are fun and dynamic. The instructor provides strengthening and cardio exercises in addition to traditional karate instruction. Emphasis is placed on practical application of the martial arts movements. In addition to classic strikes and kicks, students also learn basic throws, takedowns, joint locks, and chokes. Self-protection instruction involves not just self-defense techniques, but also self-protection principles of awareness, avoidance, escape, and de-escalation strategies.
Dave Sensei is an excellent teacher- I've trained for 17 years, and teachers of his caliber are rare. Not only is he externally knowledgeable about the art and science of Karate, he also communicates in a straightforward, no-BS manner. He won't give you vague explanations about "energy" or "chi, " he'll explain the mechanics and practical applications of what you're doing.
In addition, the students are fun-loving group who work hard, and work together- no egos here. If you want a world-class dojo experience for a small-town price, this is the best place you'll ever find.
