I have been practicing the art, Shinkageryu, under Kaz Umehara Sensei at Shinkageryu Marobashikai Tora Kyojo for a few years. Previously, I studied Aikido (US Aikido Federation) for 16 years and a few years of Daitoryu Aiki Jujutsu. Through practice, I became more aware of correct posture, movement, grip, and more.
I consider myself a beginner student. The instructor and assistant instructor, Chris, are very patient and encouraging. I take away a few key learnings from each practice sessions.
Practice is fun but serious about the art. It starts and end with "Rei-ho" (proper commencement and ending sequence).
While the school is relatively young, 5th year in 2022, the instructor possesses solid experience and understanding of the art. If you are looking for a genuine Japanese swordsmanship school and time-proven training program (since 16th century), this is the place to check.
