Studying under Sensei Prewett, who studied under Soke Karl Marx (no, not THAT Karl Marx) from white belt to black. I can't express enough the value of this training. Training for 5 years, my Sensei was extremely vested in my progression and her keen eye helped perfect technique, and morale compass helped establish strong values as I trained. I even had my daughter train as well. Like Soke, she prays at the beginning and end of all classes and has been extremely flexible when she needed to be. She's friendly, and the black belts in her dojo are of fantastic character, and you see the difference in the progression. The curriculum is clear, and she uses a stripe system for most students, and has a separate little kid's system that helps kids who stay with the training, that transitions them into the mainstream older kids/adult class. She teaches kata, self-defense, kumite (sparring), kabuto (weapons), chokes, wristlocks, punch defenses, and tournament preparation techniques. However, overall, she teaches virtues and values implemented in her dojo code that she reinforces every month.
