Being a young woman I found myself looking for something I can learn to protect myself in this day and age. I came across Aikido from a friend that was involved in a class at the Webster Groves Rec Plex. At first I was a little nervous because I am NO Bruce Lee, but I went anyways. I am so thankful I did! I have learned so much from the Sensei at the school. He has taught me to be more aware of my surroundings as well as my strengths. It doesn't take someone who has muscles on top of muscles to defend themselves. I feel more comfortable and confident being little ol' me just going to the grocery store or the mall by myself. I recommend this class to ANYONE and EVERYONE of all ages, gender, race etc. that want to feel more comfortable and confident in this crazy world we live in.

As a novice in the Martial Arts field I was looking for someone that was interested in teaching with long term in mind. Someone that takes the time to make sure new students get the training needed to better themselves as a person and as a martial artist. After looking into other martial arts, Aikido was the answer for my training. It gave me an opportunity to gain self confidence without all the punching and kicking that takes place in other arts. This school is a great place not only to start your training but also to work your way up the ranks. There are a wide range of students with the top students being very well trained and a great help to those ranked below them. I would recommend Shin-Gane Aikido Dojo to all, man or woman.

I was looking for a good dojo and came across this one. I was impressed with the Sensei's knowledge of the art of Aikido as well as his enthusiasm to teach. The class size is small and intimate. I thought the instruction was very good. Unfortunately I have relocated and only hope I can find a new school with the same values, knowledge, and enthusiasm. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone wanting to learn a Martial Art or some form of self defense.

The students in this dojo are very giving of their time to bring new students up to speed in the class. You can tell the instructor really enjoys instructing his martial art. It is said at the dojo that the instructor is consistently studying and training in his art. This is just one of the things that separates this dojo from the others. It seems that a student will leave every class with something new and applicable to everyday life.
I have trained with Sensei Mike Swederska for over ten years and can attest to his Aikido skill, passion for this Martial Art, and overall knowledge of Aikido including Japanese etiquette on the mat. But, it takes more than personal skill to be a good instructor. Sensei Swederska has the patience and teaching skills it takes for students to learn and progress in Aikido if you are willing to put forth the effort. He also has developed students that have a similar passion and ability for teaching Aikido. Shin-Gane has a mixture of male and female students from youth to seniors. If you are looking for a functional Martial Art with the ability to control a situation with a measured and effective response Sensei Swederska's school is the place for you.
