Outstanding Instruction by an Exceptional Teacher

We have been students of Shifu Scott for several years. During that time we have found him to be a patient and dedicated teacher of Chen Pan Ling Tai Chi. His private lessons allow us to progress at our own pace. Opportunities to practice with his other students provide additional opportunities to learn and improve. Although his approach is serious, the classes are fun and enjoyable. Beyond learning a beautiful martial art, we have also benefited from gains in our balance and flexibility.

Shifu Scott’s many years of learning and teaching martial arts are obvious even to novices like ourselves. We greatly appreciate his enthusiasm and dedication to teaching.

You could not ask for a better guide and instructor.

The one on one in depth instruction from a true master of the arts in unlike any other environment you will find with other schools. Shifu John Scott's extensive knowledge and understanding of the arts is nothing you will find anywhere else and to be able to have 1 on 1 training is truly special. Would 100% recommend to anyone who is serious about learning from a true master

Shifu is kind and has outstanding patience. He is an excellent teacher. He is gentle but firm with his teaching as he wants all of his students to be the best they can be in their chosen art form. I look forward to each and every class and while it is a lot of hard work. I have a lot of fun!

Superb Chen Pan Ling Taiji Quan

Scott Academy's one-on-one lesson approach allows you to get as much as you can out of each lesson, while group lessons still occur weekly and allows you to practice with other students (pre-COVID). Other schools I've attended always had group lessons with an occasional one-on-one lesson and had a big after-school program. I have been able to learn quicker and delve deeper into posture mechanics with the Scott Academy's private lesson style.

I looked at various places to study Shaolin and learn about the culture as well. John has a vast knowledge in both and has made my journey thus far exciting and challenging. This school also focuses on the student through the personal sessions. I was never a fan of American style schools where its full of students going through the motions of forms without real attention to detail. John also teaches other styles and at times will incorporate them into the lessons for broadening skills.

I've been a student at the Scott Academy of martial arts for about 3 years, and from my experience there's no substitute. As a student who doesn't reside in Frederick Maryland I travel from the district of Columbia just to attend class. From my first day til now I've hooked, and for those who loves Kung Fu this is the to learn. The Scott Academy of martial arts is very affordable, flexible on scheduling time, and you receive one on one training instructions from Master John Scott himself. With over 45 years of experience Master Scott is very humble, patience, and motivates his students. At. Scott Academy you'll learn traditional kung Fu in a fully equipped traditional school setting as well as the styles, and techniques of Chen Pan Ling who today is known as a Legend, and held at high esteem. Looking for a school to learn traditional kung Fu look no further Scott Academy is the place to be.

It truly seems like it is a work of passion for him, if you are looking for a master to show you the way deeper into martial arts, I would recommend this school.

A Superb Authentic Teacher and Dojo

I decided I wanted to learn Martial Arts to help balance out my energy, learn self defense and learn new methods to help me relax. I chose Kung Fu without any prior knowledge other than a short stint in karate as a child. Scott Academy was the second school I looked at and I'm thankful I did. Master John Scott is a superb instructor with literally a lifetime of study and training under his belt. His one on one teaching style is unmatched for his affordable price. There are no gimmicks here, no expensive belts for profit, no watered down forms of the art. Just pure, authentic training by a true master. I started martial arts about 6 months ago and Sifu John Scott encouraged me to travel to Japan to study Grand Master Chen Pan Ling's style Kung Fu. It was my first trip over seas and it literally changed my life.

Sifu John Scott is the real deal. His knowledge and precision of martial arts can be seen and felt even from a beginner such as myself who knew nothing about martial arts. I could tell by the physical appearance of the dojo that this was someone who truly loves the art and has a true passion for it. By the looks of the dojo walls with all his many credentials and photos, there was no doubt from my first visit that I was going to get the best instruction in the area, if not the state and beyond.

Sifu John Scott is very patient and will teach you at your own pace. I enrolled my 9 year old son who at this point has only had three lessons and loves Sifu John. This is Sifu John's life and he passes that passion on to every student with each one on one session. He is an inspiration and his willingness to bring together a community of martial arts practitioners shows in the way his students treat one another as family. You will be absolutely hard pressed to find another dojo in the area with the authenticity, value and affordability of Scott Academy.

My son is autistic and wanted to learn KungFu. After meeting with John, I knew this was the place. Not only is the price very affordable, John is very patient and caring, and knows how to teach my son very well. My son loves taking his one on one class every week, as well as the group class on Saturday morning. This Academy makes you feel like you are part of a family, not just a class. They have gatherings, and go to events, as well as participate in them. I highly recommend Scott Academy of Martial Arts.

Best place to learn Chinese Gung Fu

Sifu Scott is one of the most knowledgeable and patient Tai Chi Chuan instructors I've ever had. He knows and understands the complete art Chen Pan Ling Tai Chi and all its intricacies. Sifu Scott doesn’t just know the healthful aspects of Tai Chi Chuan he has a thorough understanding of the martial aspects of Tai Chi Chuan, which are exceptional, and the ability to impart that knowledge to his students in a way that suits each individual student. His focus on private lessons allows him to tailor the passing on of that knowledge in a way that is best for each student. No one size fits all with Sifu Scott.

In addition to teaching Chen Pan Ling Tai Chi Chuan Sifu Scott has a thorough understanding of the complete Chen Pan Ling system which also includes Shaolin Kung Fu, Hsing-I Chuan, Ba Gua. He has traveled to Taiwan many many times to train directly with the son and heir of the to the Chen Pan Ling system Grandmaster Chen Yun Ching and has hosted a visit of Master Chen here in Maryland as well. Sifu Scott has also been accepted as a disciple of Master Chen.

I’ve been training in Martial Arts for the majority of my life and at 59 that is a considerable bit of time and have ranking in several styles. Of all the instructors I’ve had over the decades I would rank Sifu Scott as the best. He will be my Sifu for life. I need look no further.

Best Martial Arts in Frederick, MD

We have 2 shy boys that always wanted to learn martial arts. We decided on Scott academy because they get one on one training/2 on one training and was the best choice for our boys. Our boys love going to martial arts and look forward to the days they have martial arts. They learn different forms, self defense and even spare against each other. They are even taught how to use different weapons as such swords, staffs and how to throw knifes. Scott is an amazing instructor, he teaches respect for all instructors/teachers, family and for themselves. Scott is very dedicated in teaching all different types of martial arts. He is also very flexible and works with ever changing schedules. The boys will continue to be students here because they have gained so much and have so much more to learn. We highly recommend Scott Academy of Martial Arts.

Superb, Traditional, Respectful and Legitimate

I started my martial arts training in 1985. I spent over 20 years studying another version of the arts Sifu Scott offers in his school. I was led to believe I'd attained a particular level of understanding of those arts, and spent over a decade teaching others. I've studied and taught overseas - in Japan and Korea - as well as around the US. I've studied a variety of martial arts from a variety of origins, and I've been fortunate to train with some extraordinary instructors over the years. When I met Sifu Scott, I realized how little I really knew about the arts I'd studied, and I saw what real mastery of those arts looked like. ..

The Scott Academy of Martial Arts is discreetly tucked away in a nondescript corner of an easily accessible strip mall. It is a hidden gem, a true treasure in Frederick. It's not one of the mini-mall karate day care schools, where parents drop their children in between soccer seasons. It's a place where each student comes to avail themselves of the strong lineage that Sifu Scott is connected to, to delve into the Ling Yun Pai arts as deeply as they're inclined to, in order to explore the arts and themselves with his expert instruction to guide them.

Sifu Scott is, in my estimation and based on my experience after nearly 30 years of training, singularly one of the best instructors I've had the opportunity of meeting and training with. His school is one to specifically seek out and study at. Passing up a chance to train with Sifu Scott is a missed opportunity likely not to be experienced again in a lifetime. His personal knowledge, his in depth understanding, and the indisputable lineage he is a member of, root his school and instruction solidly as one of the best schools I've ever stepped foot in, in the US or abroad.

If you are looking for training in Chinese martial arts, done in the traditional manner, by someone who genuinely knows and understands those arts, look no further. Waste no more time searching.

True traditional style Tai Chi & Kung Fu

We have studied at Scott Academy for over 5 years learning Taiji Quan, QiGong, staff & sword forms, Ba-Gua, & self-defense. Sifu Scott teaches a large variety of styles and forms suitable for all ages and physical capabilities. Sifu Scott received traditional training in multiple forms, earning the right to teach Chen Pan Ling style Tai Chi directly from the current Grand Master, Chen Yun Ching, son of Chen Pan Ling. If you care about learning martial arts from someone who can demonstrate discipleship for many generations back to the founders of various Chinese martial arts styles, you can find none better than Sifu John. Classes are taught privately with weekly opportunity for all students in the school to work and play together.

My 2 sons and I have studied Shaolin kung fu, tai chi chuan, and a little Qi Gong under Sifu Scott for over 4 years. His breadth and depth of knowledge in the martial arts is greater than any other teacher I have had, yet he is very humble. He is great with kids and will challenge adults. His classes are fun and interesting. He prices are ridiculously reasonable, especially considering the quality of instruction you receive. I can not recommend him highly enough.

Awhile back, I checked into this school because I was interested in learning more about Tai Chi. The feeling I got from the teacher was weird: he seemed like he knew his stuff, sure, but he came across as being really arrogant and unsure at the same time. I swear, he looks like Guy Fieri which was even weirder.

Forgive google translate English please. I received great operation conditioning training here, after I search for Tai Chi on LinkedIn. Before this I had middle age and fat. The Operation Conditioning training is like when Pavlov gave the dog a yummy candy and it went "Bheh Brr Brr Bheh Brr Brr." This simple trick gave me disciple and tools to change my body and feel good like Pavlov did.

Thanks you Sincerely!
