I've taken other martial arts classes throughout the years, and this one is by far the one of the most knowledgeable in Louisiana! It can challenge you mentally and physically, as you learn how to use your body to its fullest potential and make breakthroughs! When I was just starting my fitness journey(I was 300+ pounds) I wound up at this dojo and was totally hooked. I humbly say that this class changed my life for the better. ..in a disciplinary way as well as helping me fight depression and lack of direction. The sensei that teach are highly educated even beyond the arts, helping you become knowledgeable in anatomy and other sciences, to understand the meaning of everything done in class. Each rank is earned and not given just because you "showed up". Its one of those experiences that will change you for the good if you are trying to learn self defense. On that topic, it is wonderful for women to take! The amount of techniques and skills learned can help you protect your family one day if needed with confidence. Life changing class!

San Yama Ryu is a traditional martial arts school, which provides much more practical self defense and combat training than the other schools I've trained at in the area. Emphasis is always placed on student safety, and the main objective of the instructors is to provide the student with something that they can use, as opposed to flashy moves. Each belt feels fought for and earned, as opposed to a completion of a checklist. The dojo also has an extensive recommended reading list, to take the martial arts in a more scholarly direction. Classes are upbeat and full of energy, and the students want to help each other. I highly recommend for anyone.

Comprehensive traditional Japanese martial arts. Fully encompasses all aspects of defense. Best school and instructors I have ever encountered in a generation of martial arts training.

I have been going here for a while and I love it. I think the techniques are very streetable and very effective. Once you experience a class you become hooked and want more.
It's been years since I have received instruction from this school, but I still remember things from that training, mostly timing and placement. The instructor is very knowledgeable and takes his responsibilities seriously.
