This is the New England dojo of Japan Karate-Do Ryobu-Kai (JKR), an international martial arts organization with branches in 35 countries around the world. The New England dojo is led by Sensei Paul P. Belle Isle, 5th dan, who has more than 25 years experience in the martial arts.
Japan Karate-Do Ryobu-Kai (JKR) dojos teach a form of traditional karate called Shindo Jinen Ryu, which has roots that reach back to the 16th century traditions of Takenouchi Ryu Jujitsu. JKR was founded by Sensei Yasuhiro Konishi, and Shindo Jinen Ryu is not only one of the original Japanese styles of karate, but one of the very first to be recognized officially.
Training within JKR is founded on traditional methods, stressing discipline, dedication, and hard work, with an added emphasis on philosophy and education. In addition to the punches, strikes and kicks commonly associated with karate, Shindo Jinen Ryu incorporates elements of aikido, jujitsu, and kendo - such as joint locks, throws and take downs - making it a particularly well-rounded martial art.
