There a lot of flashy, gimmicky flavor of the moment schools out there marketing to what people believe the martial arts are, and then there are organizations like the Rockaway karate academy. If you are looking for a dojo with true roots and an active connection to karate and kobudo as practiced in Okinawa, where karate was born then you'll find it here where the Head Instructor has over 40 years experience teaching, and unlike other schools where you only see the Head Instructor during "testing" at the Rockaway Karate Academy the Head Instructor teaches 7 classes a week ranging from 5 year old white belts to adult black belt students.
The opportunity to train directly under an 8th degree black belt, the opportunity for your child to train directly under an 8th degree blackbelt (who I guarantee wouldn't even mention that rank to you if you walked in the door) is priceless. The martial arts like most things in life only give you back what you put into them. If you're looking to learn what the martial arts are come to the Rockaway Karate Academy, if you're looking for crossfit, or believe in a magic pill to make you the next UFC star then there are plenty of other places begging to take your money.
