Excellent karate school. Very clean studio, awesome, knowledgeable instructors, fun place to train for children and adults. My child gained self-confidence, learned respect and discipline and learned how to protect himself. Unfortunately he had to use his training one time when he was jumped by several guys. Every dime we spent on his training at Quartz Hill Karate was worth it for him to be able to defend himself. These guys left hurt and never bothered him again. Thankfully he has not had to use it again but I know he can defend himself if he needs to. Highly recommend this school.

Very Best Karate Instructor and Karate Studio

We are so very happy that we found this karate studio. We had been to 2 other schools and we were very disappointed with the lack of discipline and technique. The head instructor at Quartz hill Karate is a great balance of strict and fun with the students. I can't believe the difference with the students in the previous school we were from. This studio is so much cheaper with much better quality and morals. My child is learning so much more here. They don't give the belts away here, the students have to earn them. This is exactly what I want for my child. He is learning that things in life are not given to you, but need to be earned.

I love this place. My children were being picked on at school so I brought them to Quartz Hill Karate. There are Autistic children, children with ADHD and other disabilities, and children from every race in the classes and everyone is treated the same. My children gained self-confidence and truly earned every belt. The chief instructor is amazing and knows what he's doing. I love that they not only teach karate and how to defend yourself, but they also impress upon the students how important it is to be good citizens.

Excellent instruction from the best. The students learn how to defend themselves. They also gain confidence and learn respect which is lacking so much today. We love this studio. Our kids will be here till they go off to college.
Some of the 5 star comments are right in the sense that this school makes you earn your belts and doesn’t just bump you up after a few months arbitrarily, nor do you “buy” your black belt. In fact, I can tell you with experience that there’s so much rigorous training that goes into earning your black belt that my family called it the “black belt death march. ”
Sometimes, that level of expectation can become too extreme. The head instructor in particular expects his students to put karate almost before anything else, even if you’re involved in other sports (he has a particular bias against soccer for some reason. ) If your soccer game is happening at the same time as a karate tournament and you choose the soccer game, expect to get humiliated by Master Q next time you walk in to the studio. Yes, even if you’re 9 years old.
I’d like to share one story before concluding. My little sister, who was 8 years old at the time, was eligible to test for her next belt but couldn’t make the test date bc our family had already scheduled a big trip months in advance. My parents tried to explain this to the head instructor but he was still cross about it. After we got back from vacation, there was another test coming up and he decided that my sister was suddenly no longer eligible for this test. This is something my parents were still angry and confused by even years later.
The head instructor has a personal contempt for anyone he deems “a quitter” and it creates a certain environment that you don’t really see until you’ve been in it for some time: fair warning to anyone wanting to sign up.
He also advocates for openly shaming children for screwing up, stepping out of line, or not putting equipment back in the correct orientation. Some ppl see it as just discipline or “toughening them up” but if you’re signing up your kid, it’s your call. He is starting to hand off his duties to younger more empathetic instructors, however. So maybe things will change.
