My son goes here and it's fantastic for kids

The classes are small and kids get personal attention. Richard makes the lessons fun as well as instructive. He's incredibly patient with the kids and encourages them on their strengths while correcting the things they've yet to master.

The focus is not on attaining belts and competition, which I really appreciate, but instead on self-improvement and skills that will benefit these kids for life. He incorporates meditation into some classes and for example, a few of his mat chats at the beginning have focused on confidence, assertiveness and brief bits of history about the disciplines he teaches.

That said, my son has learned about the proper stance and can jab, cross, hook and kick, as well as cross the mat in ways I have no idea how to describe (I've forgotten the terms!). He's learning to fall back and get back up quickly. He's begun to practice some Brazilian jujitsu moves. They use a giant exercise ball as a dodge ball and have a "ring of doom" where you try to force your opponent to step out. My son loves obstacle course days.

After my son's first class I asked him his favorite thing. First he said the running, but then he changed his answer to, "Meditation. " That was a surprise to me, though it was something I wanted him to learn.

The gym space is clean and doesn't smell like any gyms I've been to in the past. The vast expanse of mats and high ceilings make it feel gigantic and it is pretty big.

My son is still fairly new to martial arts, but he's already learned quite a lot and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Prevail.
