Indonesian Martial
Do you like drum circles? Tribal Music? Self defense? Knives and swords? Martial Arts? The Mystic Path?... then Sumatran Silat just may be for you....
described as a devastating and punishing self defense method hailing from the island of Sumatra in Indonesia,.. it is known as Pentjak Silat.. a deeply mystical musical tribal dance. It is very effective weaponless, an empty-handed response to multiple armed assailants so ancient, no one knows how old it is... the movements are very highly refined and full of wisdom... so this martial art does not require physical prowess, but it can be adjusted to varying levels of fitness...what it improves upon is the heart power for channelling inspired combat movement...
Silat is unlike other martial arts; its moves are not known in the traditional systems, we have come to know as martial arts...., this is why its dance is so distinguished and unique.... it does not resemble Kung Fu, Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Karate or Kick Boxing.... (although each of these arts are blessed in their own way). Silat has been formed by the need to overcome other martial arts systems... down through the centuries... because of this its intention is aggressive, there are no tournaments, or katas... predetermined fighting forms, or sparring in the conventional sense.... there is no belt ranking system... just the teacher and his students and everyone knows who is which....
