The Penn State Karate Club - Philadelphia Region is operated by Penn State Karate Club Alumni and students from Penn State, University Park. The Penn State Karate Club is one of the oldest University affiliated Karate Clubs in the Eastern United States, and has been in existence for nearly fifty years.
The Philadelphia branch of the club continues the traditions of discipline, self-defense, teamwork, and academic excellence upon which the Penn State Karate Club was founded.

The following Martial Arts Styles are offered at Penn State Karate Club - Philadelphia Region:
Programs & Class Schedule
Formal IsshinRyu Karate-Do Training in Manayunk section of Philadelphia. IsshinRyu began in Okinawa, Japan by Master Tatsuo Shimabuku. Dojo is operated by Penn State Karate Club Alumni.
Workouts: We practice from 6-8 pm on Sunday evenings. Practices include, warm-ups/stretching, strength exercises (push-ups, sit-ups, dips, pull-ups, running), upper and lower body basic techniques, kata (belt rank forms), self-defense, focus mit and air shield drills, sparring (controlled, light-contact), ground fighting, pressure point activation, joint locks and throws, and weapons (IsshinRyu Black Belts only).
Instructors: 2 Full IWKA instructors (5th and 3rd degree Black Belts) with 35+ years combined experience. 2 partial IWKA instructors (3rd and 1st degree Black Belts) with 10+ years combined experience.
Students: Several student belt ranks (white through green belt) as well. No previous martial arts experience required.
Participants: Men and Women welcome. Must be 18+ years old to participate.
Cost: A one-time annual fee of $34.00 is required for insurance associated with our lease. $40.00 per month fee per student allows us to pay for our rental workout space only (This equates to $5.00/hour, very reasonable). Instructors are volunteers and train students without pay. That is how much we love to practice and teach!
