I only joined oyster bay kickboxing in January 2014 and have already lost over 20 pounds in 3 months. After the first class i didn't want to go back but i found motivation too and i love it. The instructors at oyster bay take a big part in the reason why i went back, their so motivating and they always push you to improve. Ive noticed a change in my strength and cardio and feel so much better in only 3 months! Definitely a great habit to get into, so addicting!
Contracts? "Hard sell"

New studio in town. Physically, it's great. After all the building is new, so it should be nice, right?
The Sensei, Bobby appears to be a decent person but he should tone down the "hard sell"
He had a contract written up and ready for my "John Hancock" before I even walked in the door. Huge turnoff!!!
Plus, (as a person who's been studying karate for several years), I am well aware that going to a dojo that requires a CONTRACT is a big no-no. Why can't people pay monthly and not be penalized if circumstances change and they have stop.
I understand the rationale behind it, but is it fair to hold a parent "financially hostage"? (after all a large percentage of karate students are children) If a parent signs a kid up for karate and if the child decides its not for them, why should the parent suffer financially? let's face it kids are fickle and more often than not, the "idea" of studying martial arts is more glamorous and exciting than the reality.
Quality of instruction is solid. Dojo is very nice! Again its brand new. Price is avg. However, I can find many dojo's on Long Island that offer the exact same thing with no contracts and lower price.
Do not agree with contracts, and the "hard sell" is a huge turnoff. I understand you're in business to make a buck, but why not try acting like you actually care about the students and teaching karate. You come off like a used car salesman.
Bobby and his team are amazing. I always leave feeling great and wanting to come back for more. The place is clean and very welcoming. I love feeling sore after taking a class here!
