Shihan Noss began training in Hayashi ha Shito-ryu in 1972 under Timothy Brooks in Dayton, Ohio. He has practiced continuously and daily since then.

On May 12, 2009, Shihan Reed Noss was appointed Vice-President of Japan Karatedo Hayashi-Ha Shitoryu-Kai USA by Shihan Akio Minakami, President of Hayashi-Ha Shitoryu-Kai USA.

On August 13, 2009, Shihan Reed Noss was awarded the rank of 7th Dan (7th-degree black belt) by Hayashi-Ha Shitoryu-Kai Headquarters, Osaka, Japan, via Shihan Akio Minakami, President of Hayashi-Ha Shitoryu-Kai USA.
