Open Door Jujitsu

Join Open Door Jujitsu, a community of martial artists teaching and learning Dan Zan Ryu jujitsu. DZR is a beautiful, powerful, practical martial art with a strong self-defense orientation. (It is also a lot of fun.) You learn rolling and falling, joint locks, escapes from common attacks, mat work, and basic kicks and strikes. DZR also includes healing techniques and a massage style.

We offer periodic short-term classes in women's self-defense and safe rolling & falling, and we are happy to schedule such classes for groups. All adult and young adult students are welcome. We are LGBTQ-friendly.

Sensei Lisa Hirsch started training in 1982 and has more than 20 years of jujitsu teaching experience. She is a Nidan (second degree black belt) in the American Judo and Jujitsu Federation (AJJF).

Programs & Class Schedule

Tuesdays & Thursdays
​7:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.

First class is free! Come early to sign up. Wear loose, comfortable clothing or a white judo gi.

No contract required. Classes are $65/month. AJJF membership required. Six-week self-defense classes are $150 per student. Safe rolling & falling classes are ten weeks long, $200 per student. No one turned away for lack of funds.
