I was able to take a class with my then 5 year old son. We had a great time! I really liked the mixed ages and levels in the class. It seemed to foster 'mentoring' relationships and let the beginner belts see what they can work towards.

The workouts and drills were challenging and I was impressed with the focus on technique. There was lots of one-on-one instruction and help. I felt great while taking the class!

We had to take a break because a new baby was on the way, but I am looking forward to starting again.

A School of Traditional Martial Arts as Well as Progressive Philosophies

As the father of Sensi Chris, I have watched him evolve from a beginning white belt thru to his current 3rd Dan. He has always loved not just the fighting aspect of Martial Arts but the Art itself.

Chris has operated a part-time karate school for some time. Opening his dojo- to full-time use has long been a desire of his. Along with Sensi Chris' experience and talents he has several experts in the other disciplines that are offered. They work with the individual student until they are ready to progress to the next belt level.

If you are looking for a Martial Arts School for your child/grandchild, I am proud to recommend Old School Karate Systems.

I had taken instruction outside the area years ago in karate, jujitsu, and aikido. I'd become accustomed to focusing on technique first, with speed and strength following. (I had been taught that technique always wins in the long run. ) For a long time, I was afraid I would not be able to find a teacher in the area that concentrated on technique first. I consider myself fortunate to have finally stumbled into a school with several wonderful teachers, all of whom are active in the martial arts community. The school is very supportive, pushing each towards fulfilling their potential while respecting that individuals improve at their own pace. I would recommend anyone considering martial arts in the Cumberland area to sample the offerings at Old School Karate Systems.

I have been to other schools in the area, and was not that impress with their knowledge and skill level. I came to Old School Karate Systems to find out what it was about. Once I started here I was glad to see martial art school that teaches traditional art along with today fighting of mix martial arts. The instructors here make you feel welcome and teach you all aspect of the style that you are studying. This is not a another Mc Dojo school which I mean that you earn your rank and not given to you. You have to work your rank or title. They work closely with each student to make sure that you know what you are doing and explain everything to you. You are not just a student to filling a space in the Dojang. They want to make sure that you understand everything is taught to you along with making time extra if you need it with no additional cost. To me, that is what true martial arts should be. They truly teach all aspect what martial arts like Honor, Respect, Discipline, Honesty, and commitment that helps you as individual person to be strong.
