Programs & Class Schedule

Kyoshi Patten has classes for both children and adults, starting at age 4 years old and up. All students that join the classes start out with basic stretching exercises and calisthenics along with the 15 upper body basics and 9 basic kicks. Students will then move on to Hand Kata or "Forms" and will eventually learn Weapons Kata. Our curriculum is structured in a way that allows a student to learn and progress at their own pace, while always insuring that each student is moving forward and continually learning. We strive to instill in each student the confidence that comes with karate training through the practical application of the techniques they are learning. By utilizing these techniques through pairing off with partner, each student comes to understand how the Isshin Ryu techniques work and how best to use these techniques in any given situation. Through the drilling of the basics and kata, a student will learn how to focus on the moment, eventually learning how to block out distractions around them, allowing them to focus on the task at hand. This type of training helps students to achieve better grades in school and also helps them to understand the importance of completing tasks they are assigned before moving on to another. Because students work with others in the dojo, there is a great sense of camaraderie within the class and this helps with their communicating with others outside the dojo. In the children's classes, Sensei Patten teaches about anti-bullying and what to do in the event that a student ends up in this type of scenario. He also teaches and holds seminars on Child Abduction Awareness for both students and parents.
