Classes in Okinawan Karate and Weaponry are offered at Dixon Park in Clarksville, TN. Classes are held on Saturday mornings at Dixon Park on the corner of 10th Street and Commerce. Classes are open to all Adults (18 years or older). Classes focus on self-defense using the classical Okinawan karate paradigm of Basics (Kihon), Forms (Kata), and partner applications (Kumite). In addition to the empty hand art, classical weaponry is instructed also. The Ryukyu Hon Kenpo Kobujutsu (Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo) system is taught by a certified instructor with over 25 years in the Okinawan / Japanese martial arts.
Our primary martial arts system is an Okinawan martial art comprised of two separate but complimentary arts. Ryukyu Hon Kenpo is the weaponless self-defense art handed down via Odo Seikichi (1926-2002) of Okinawa, Japan, which consists of striking with the weapons of the body as well as throws, and joint locks. Odo Seikichi Daisensei also incorporated an extensive Okinawan Kobujustu (weapons) system into his tradition. The traditional weapons practiced in the RHKK dojo are Sai (metal truncheon), Tunfa (wooden mill stone handle), and Rokushaku Bo (six foot staff), to name but a few.
Classes are adult only and are geared towards the experienced martial arts practitioner, but motivated newcomers are welcomed. Classes are held outdoors during the warmer months and move to an indoor facility during the winter. Classes are geared towards partner work and moderate controlled contact (with padding).
Classes are 2+ hours in length and consist of kettlebell work outs and yoga sessions to begin and end every class period (both taught by certified instructors).
This is a non-contract, free of charge program. If you have any questions please call or contact the instructor.
