Reviews of Ocean State Isshin-Ryu Karate

Ocean state karate was fun. Had to leave due to some injuries (not from karate) but am looking forward to returning. Feel like I could defend myself even with what I learned as a white belt.

Nice people overall but the instructors need to get on the same page with each other. I would be taught something by one instructor a certain way, demonstrate it the next week in front of another, and then have the instructor tell me it is wrong. This is frustrating after you have practiced something for a week the way you have been told to and then another instructor re-teaches you to do it differently. No matter what you do you can't win. Expect the usual heckling you would get in sports but the coach. I felt that the instructors used their "power" to make themselves look good and for their own satisfaction. Some of my questions, which were good and fair questions, were also laughed at. However, the potential to learn great things from this school exists and I would recommend this place ONLY IF modifications were made. It is the real deal but like I said, the instructors need to be on the same page.
