This was the only school in Cary or Raleigh that offered real family classes and wasn't just Tae Kwon Do, so my 8 year old daughter and I can learn together. Most other schools offer adult classes and child classes, but at different times, which was very frustrating with a busy schedule. Ninpodo Hombu Dojo also does not make you sign a contract which was a big turn off at the other schools. The instructor is very good and keeps the class small so there is more one on one time. He is very understanding, accommodating, and works well with kids and adults. The instructor really seems to enjoy teaching more then collecting tuition fees. I learn something new almost every class which keeps it fresh and interesting. Ninpodo is focused on self defense and being able to think for yourself so you can react to any situation. It does not waste time on memorizing strings of moves just to memorize them. Instead moves are learned and put to practical use, where you have to think on your toes and come up with your own combination of moves to counter attack. Lots of improvised weapons are used so the techniques can be used under everyday situations where you may be unprepared. Techniques also focus on redirection, joint locks, pressure points, and throws so that you can defend yourself even if you are not very strong. My daughter has learned several techniques to help her attack me or any other adult three times her size.
