Nihon Budo Kenkyu ( Martial Arts Research)
Alaska Yoshinkan Pioneer I started the martial arts in 1971. Judo was my first martial art, back then karate was thought too dangerous for children. I begun my karate training under Charles Scott (Fairbanks Alaska) and then Dr. David Brownridge. In 1984 I met Kiyoshi Yamazaki (Ryobukai North America Shibucho) and through him Sam Combs of the Kadokan dojo, a Yoshinkan Branch dojo in Cafliornina. It was the Ryobukai that opened the doors of traditonal Japanese martial arts. In 1992 I traveled to Canada to train with Fred Hayens and group. Since 1992 I have promoted aikido in Fairbanks and Anchorage with many peolple practicing Yoshinkan Aikido and now two dojos in Alaska. 1995 I had the chance to travel to the Yoshinkan headquarters in Tokyo Japan, and the first Yoshinkan instructor gasshuku (aikido daycamp). When I became a member of International Yoshinkai, there was a kobudo section in place. Soke Gozo Shioda had some experience in kobudo, but it was though the Seidokan and the Chudokan that pointed me in the right direction . Since then I have met some of the top ranked instuctors in Japan and USA
