The sensei and sempis who help the students (kids and adults alike) are all encouraging and will take the time to explain how to do the techniques. This place has helped my child's confidence!! I would recommend this place to anyone.
I had volunteered to teach for several years and saw it go from almost exclusively friends, family, and co workers of the head sensei's to rebranding itself as an after school program with a summer camp. The other teens and adults were all in a big clique and not welcoming to new people who weren't already friends with one of them. Otherwise people will purposely do a poor job of being a good practice partner for you while taking everyone else seriously. The previous owner was very professional and polite, and had no such comments to say about her respectful demeanor towards me or anyone else. I cannot say the same for the rest of the staff.
Was met with cold shoulders from all the other staff, including volunteers, huddling in a corner discussing the lesson plans when I had arrived early to the lessons I was helping teach with the occasional odd hand gesture that wasn't explained. Then when trying to talk about this dojo outside of the dojo, was met with "oh, my little cousin Timmy does karate there!" among other infantilizing insults.
Was a complete waste of time and a few steps up from being beaten up for lunch money, which never happened. Since they do expect monthly dues for such an awful experience that was worse than the high school I was attending at the time.
