I am a police officer that has practiced Tae Kwon Do, Brazilian Jujitsu, and Boxing. I find these systems fall short when applied to real world situations while at work. I have been attending Miyama Ryu for some time and have noticed that it is a really effective system in the situations I have encountered. Multiple attackers, ground and standing, an opponent that is bigger than you. It is not flashy, showy, but a practical application of centuries worth of martial arts experience.
AFFORDABLE: The dojo is extremely affordable, no contracts or gimmicks, you can pay daily, weekly, monthly.
ENVIRONMENT:The dojo is clean and organized, they wash the mats down daily. The students are extremely friendly and willing to help you learn. There are no Meatheads that want to prove themselves. There is some tradition, like no shoes on the mat, etc, they have a basic philosophy- lets get on the mat and learn.
My son was getting picked on at school and we wanted to find a place to build his confidence. Miyama Ryu was a great place. They gave him the skills to believe in himself and how to get out of the situation first and not resort to violence unless necessary. My son told me that he was picked on later and he just stood his ground. He didn't need to get physical. The bullies just moved on to the next kid. Thank you so much Miyama Ryu.
