I love this place.
When I first started at Mission, it was after an exhaustive search of MANY MMA gyms in the area. I picked Mission because they seemed to have the best bang for the buck and they seemed to be serious without taking themselves too seriously. Other places I went to required ridiculously large down payments and contracts while Mission just seemed like guys that wanted you to enjoy the experience. Thats not to say they don't know what theyre doing. Bill, the owner, trained with Royce Gracie and absolutely knows his stuff. The instructors are awesome, training is personalized and focused and they actually seem to care about you and your training. When I signed up in late December of last year, I paid for January and told Bill I'd see him January 1st to start training. He told me, "huh? Why wait? Come in tomorrow." I was able to come in for about 2 weeks, as many times as I wanted, for every class I wanted, for basically free. I was told I can come when I want and stop when I want. You feel like youre part of something here, not just a "member" paying his dues or going through the motions. I was relatively new to mixed martial arts, yet I was never babied or ignored, nor made to feel like I was holding things up or in the way. People remember your name here; its like the Cheers of fighting. The only real knock on Mission was that it was a little small.
Well, recently, they have moved to a larger facility, and I seriously can't find a knock on it. They teach "mixed martial arts," and they mean it. You can take, Muy Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Striking, Krav Magra and have recently added kids bully prevention, cardio kickboxing, and even have an actual UFC veteran, Waylon Lowe, teaching MMA on Thursdays. The new gym is gorgeous and is just ridiculously spacious. Theres even room for you to flip the 300 pound truck tire they have now! If you're starting out and don't want one of those "bow to sensei," high pressure places, but still want to feel like your training is serious and being taken seriously, theres no other place like it.
The best MMA Gym in the area for Adults & Kids. . The Kids classes are well organized providing Brazilian JuJitsu & Muay Thai instruction. Eddie Torres is the lead Instructor for Kids Classes & he instills positive motivation, discipline & excellent instruction for the kids. Plus he brings a wealth of martial arts knowledge & his own personal fitness level is unsurpassed. The Adults Classes include Brazilian JuJitsu, Muay Thai, Krav Maga & Cardio Kickboxing. If you are looking to learn how to defend yourself and or in get into top shape then Mission MMA is your destination. No high pressure sales tactics. The prices are reasonable. The instruction is excellent in a positive upbeat atmosphere and training facility is clean, well equipped & spacious.
