Matsusoden Kobukan Karate Kobudo is a study of ancient martial arts of the Ryukyu Islands of Japan. The focus is an Okinawan Te kata ( Okinawa Hand forms) centric based curriculum immersed in the old school (Koryu), pre-dating 1900 and traditional (Dento) methods, concepts and principles in the ancient Okinawan Martial Arts. From kata the offensive and defensive applications are derived defining anatomical structure and weaknesses, stability and energy (power) transmission, strategy and tactical application of a defensive art form. This is not a Sport or Tournament style martial art.
Mr. Greg Poitras holds a Renshi (Master Instructor) 6th degree Black Belt in Matsubayashi Ryu, 5th degree in Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu and a 3rd Degree in Ryukyu Hakutsuru (White Crane) karate. Sensei Poitras is a 24 year Retired Navy Combat Air crewman currently serving as a Commissioned Federal Law Enforcement Officer with U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the past 14 years. He has studied and practiced in the martial arts for over 30 years with more than 22 years teaching martial arts in the Western Pacific, far and middle east as well as the U.S. He has instructed both Military Police and U.S. Customs Air Interdiction Agents, as a Certified U.S. Customs Defensive Tactics Instructor, in advanced self defense techniques while performing Southern Border, Central and South American drug interdiction operations.
